Giuliano Named Executive Assistant Director of FBI's National Security Branch

On Sept. 12, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) named Mark F. Giuliano executive assistant director of the FBI's National Security Branch (NSB).

According to the FBI, the NSB combines the missions and resources of the agency's counterterrorism, counterintelligence, weapons of mass destruction and intelligence elements. It also includes the Terrorist Screening Center, which provides actionable intelligence to state and local law enforcement.

"I am confident that under Mark's leadership in managing international and domestic counterterrorism investigations, NSB will continue its strategic focus and address new and emerging threats that endanger the United States and its citizens," said FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.

Guiliano began his FBI career in the Washington Field Office's Safe Streets and Gang Task Force. He also served on the Special Weapons and Tactics team as an assault team leader.

Throughout his FBI career, Giuliano has served in a variety of roles across the country and abroad. He was section chief of the Domestic Terrorism and Strategic Operation Section and deputy assistant director for Operations Branch II, Counterterrorism Division. He also served the Atlanta Division as assistant special agent in charge of national security and as supervisory special agent of the violent crimes and international terrorism squads. Giuliano was previously at FBI headquarters in the Violent Crimes Section and was the FBI's on-scene commander in Afghanistan.

Most recently, Giuliano served as assistant director of the Counterterrorism Division at FBI headquarters.
