CBP Officers Seize Nearly $94K in Marijuana at Brownsville Port

Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Gateway International Bridge on Tuesday discovered marijuana valued at approximately $93,700 concealed within a Toyota Corolla.

On Tuesday, Oct. 11, CBP officers at the Gateway International Bridge encountered a female driving a black 2003 Toyota Corolla at CBP primary. The driver, identified as an 18-year-old female U.S. citizen who resides in Brownsville, Texas was referred to secondary for further inspection. Examination by CBP officers in secondary revealed 53 bundles inside hidden compartments of the Toyota. CBP officers removed the packages, which had a total weight of 42.5 kilograms (93.7 pounds) of alleged marijuana, from the vehicle.

The alleged marijuana from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $93,700. CBP officers turned the woman over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle.

“Nearly 94 pounds of marijuana will not reach the streets of our cities thanks to the hard work being done by our CBP officers. I thank our CBP officers for this outstanding seizure and arrest and for their continued enforcement efforts on the border,” said Michael Freeman, port director, Brownsville.
