Border Patrol agents make $8.3 million cocaine bust on Thanksgiving Day

SALTON CITY --- A Mexican national faces possible drug-related charges after federal authorities discovered more than $8.3 million of cocaine hidden inside a semi-truck on Thanksgiving Day at the Highway 86 checkpoint, a press release read.

News about the holiday bust wasn't made public until today by U.S. Border Patrol authorities who reported that on Thursday an imaging system revealed 100 sealed packages of cocaine were concealed in a custom-made compartment, the release reported.

The illegal narcotic weighed about 260 pounds. The driver, a 44-year-old Mexican citizen who had valid immigration documents, was turned over to the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
