Yuma Border Patrol Agents Seize Marijuana and Arrest Suspected Smuggler

Yuma, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from Yuma Sector, a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Joint Field Command – Arizona, seized approximately 140 pounds of marijuana and arrested a suspected smuggler, yesterday morning.

Wellton Station agents patrolling east of Dateland located four bundles of marijuana near I-8 at mile marker 66. Shortly after finding the bundles, agents also discovered a suspect hiding nearby.

The subject and narcotics, with an estimated value of $70,000, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

CBP announced the JFC-AZ in February 2011 as an organizational realignment that brings together the U.S. Border Patrol, Air and Marine, and Field Operations in Arizona under a unified command structure. JFC-AZ integrates CBP’s border security, commercial enforcement and trade facilitation missions to more effectively meet the unique challenges faced in Arizona.
