The FBI released photos today of two bank robbers whose get-a-way car collided with a garbage truck after an unsmooth heist Tuesday at First American Bank on the city's Southwest Side.
The robbery took place at a branch located at 11821 S. Western Avenue. Officials said the two men walked into the branch Tuesday morning with guns, announced a robbery, jumped over the counter and cleaned out several teller drawers.
When they ran out of the bank, a dye pack mixed with cash exploded. The two men then jumped into a car and sped off, but crashed into a garbage truck a few blocks from the bank, officials said.
But the crash didn't slow the pair down as witnesses said they continued east on 116th Street, officials said.
The robbers were described as black, in their early 30s and were last seen wearing dark clothing. One of the robbers had a long black-and-gray beard, and the other had a short black beard.
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact the Chicago office of the FBI at 312-421-6700.
