One person is dead after a Border Patrol agent was involved in a shooting near Corpus Christi Thursday morning.
“We can confirm one suspect that was involved in the incident is deceased,” said supervisory agent Rosalinda Huey, a Border Patrol spokeswoman. “No other injuries have been reported. It's still under investigation and we're waiting on more information.”
Agents took other people into custody, but Huey said she didn't know how many. She said more information will be released as the investigation progresses.
San Patricio County Sheriff Leroy Moody said the shooting happened at about 11:20 a.m. in the southwest corner of the county between Old San Patricio and Mathis.
“The information I have is apparently the person tried to run over the border patrolman,” Moody said. “That's where we're at right now”
His deputies were on site Thursday evening assisting with the investigation.
“To our knowledge the only people armed out there was our officers,” Moody said. “None of the other people are armed, as far as we know right now.”
