 U.S. Border Patrol Agents Rescue Two From All American Canal

Calexico, Calif. – On January 26, 2012, Border Patrol agents from the Calexico Station worked together to rescue two illegal aliens from the swift currents of the All American Canal. 

The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m., after Border Patrol agents using a remote video surveillance system (RVSS) observed five suspected illegal aliens enter the All American Canal and attempt to swim across. Agents responding observed two of the individuals being swept away by the hazardous current and having trouble staying afloat. 

RVSS operators immediately notified nearby agents who responded to the crisis;: responding agents deployed rescue throw bags and assisted the victims out of the All American Canal to safety.

This incident serves as a reminder that a moving body of water, such as the All American Canal, while appearing calm can be extremely dangerous. Smugglers operate with little concern for illegal aliens as they continually place them in life threatening situations. Both individuals were found to be wearing life preserving vests, but still struggled to free themselves from the water. 

All subjects were unharmed and found to be Mexican citizens illegally present in the U.S. The group was transported to the Calexico Border Patrol station for processing.

CBP Officers at Pharr Import Lot Seize $876,000 worth of Meth in Truck Carrying Cucumbers

Pharr, TX - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry this weekend seized $876,000 in methamphetamine hidden in a commercial truck. 

CBP officers at Pharr, Texas discovered 58 pounds of methamphetamine in a tractor-trailer.

The seizure occurred on Jan. 27 during an examination conducted at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge import lot. A CBP officer referred a 1998 Kenworth tractor hauling a utility trailer with a shipment of cucumbers for a secondary examination. CBP officers performed an intensive examination and discovered 23 packages containing a total of 58 pounds of methamphetamine hidden within the trailer. 

The methamphetamine has an estimated street value of $876,000. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the tractor trailer.

“This is a significant interception of hard narcotics not typically encountered in the commercial environment,” said Efrain Solis, CBP Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “Our officers are to be commended for their continued ability to detect narcotics while facilitating lawful commerce at the Pharr import lot.”nds.

CBP Officers at Pharr Bridge Seize $1.8 Million in Cocaine

Pharr, TX - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry this weekend seized cocaine valued at $1.2 million from a vehicle driven by a woman from Reynosa, Mexico.

CBP officers at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry seized cocaine valued at $1.2 million from a vehicle driven by a woman from Mexico.

The seizure occurred on Jan. 27 during a routine examination at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. A CBP officer referred a 1998 Isuzu Trooper driven by a 27-year-old female Mexican citizen from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico for a secondary examination. After conducting an intensive inspection, CBP officers discovered 16 bundles containing a total of nearly 40 pounds of cocaine hidden within the vehicle. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $1.2 million.

CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.

“A seizure of this amount of hard narcotics underscores the reality of the drug threat our officers face on a daily basis. Their application of inspections experience and technology results in seizures like these and helps CBP keep our borders safe and secure,” said Efrain Solis, CBP Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. 

 CBP Officers at Peace Bridge Arrest Male for False Identity

Buffalo, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations announced the apprehension and arrest of an individual attempting entry into the United States under an assumed identity. 

Adama Conde, a 36 year-year-old male citizen of Guinea, was encountered by CBP Officers at the Peace Bridge on January 25th aboard a Greyhound bus. Mr. Conde presented the U.S, passport of a 28-year-old male born in Georgia bearing Conde’s photo. CBP Officers later determined that the Guinean citizen used the false identity as a cover due to his being in deportation proceedings from the United States. 

Mr. Conde was arraigned in federal court on January 31, and is currently facing charges of False Claim to US Citizenship and Misuse of a Passport.
