Austin man found driving $1.8 million in heroin from Mexico

BROWNSVILLE — An Austin man is being questioned after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Roma seized heroin valued at nearly $1.8 million and more than $300,000 worth of cocaine in the car he had just driven across the Roma/Miguel Aleman International Bridge.
CBP said the 53-year-old U.S. citizen was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, after officers found some 22 pounds of Mexican brown heroin and 10 pounds of cocaine in secret compartments in the fenders of his Ford Edge sedan.
He has been transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
