The United States Marshals Service Announces Interns for the Fall Semester
Las Cruces, NM - The Marshals Service is proud to announce that the first five candidates for the New Mexico State University and United States Marshals Service Volunteer Student Internship Program in Las Cruces, New Mexico have been selected.  The Interns have received notice that they are to report and will officially start the Volunteer Student Intern Program in August.  The Interns will have structured guidance and will experience different aspects of their local Marshals office and the Federal Court system. The semester will end on December 9th, 2011 and each Intern will receive a certificate of appreciation, upon successful completion of the program.  The selected students passed an extensive interview and background check.

At the beginning of the program, students will meet with the Intern Liaison to establish a schedule for the semester. This is a voluntary, unpaid internship, designed to be flexible to work around existing employment and academic commitments. Interns are expected to work at least eight hours per week. Interns must arrive on time for all scheduled assignments, in appropriate business attire.

The University of New Mexico has been participating in the internship program with the Marshals Service in Albuquerque for over 6 years and more than 20 students have completed the internship program. Starting in the fall semester of 2011 the Las Cruces office of the United States Marshals Service will provide internship opportunities for students at the New Mexico State University.

The internship program provides students interested in federal law enforcement an opportunity to obtain educational work experience and an understanding of the role of the U.S. Marshals Service in the justice system. Program areas include: Investigative & Fugitive Operations, Court Security, Judicial Security, Prisoner Operations, Administrative Services, and Agency Management.
