Salton City, Calif. – Last Saturday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station arrested a 24-year-old man attempting to smuggle over $370,000 worth of methamphetamine.

The arrest took place at approximately 7:00 a.m., after a Border Patrol canine team alerted to a white Nissan Altima at the Highway 111 Checkpoint near Salton City. The driver, a Mexican citizen with valid immigration documents, was referred to secondary inspection where a thorough search was conducted of his vehicle.
During the search, agents discovered several packages of narcotics concealed within the back-side of the driver and passenger seats. The substance inside the packages weighed approximately 5.2 pounds and tested positive for methamphetamine.
The suspect, vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
