Federal Firearms Dealer Receives Sentence of 121 Months Imprisonment

A Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) was sentenced to 121 months imprisonment for various federal firearms related offenses, the U.S.
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced Friday in a news release.

John Rumble of New York was convicted on one count of conspiracy to make false statements in his FFL records, two counts of sale of a firearm to an illegal drug user, two counts of making false statements in his FFL records and one count of being an unlawful drug user in possession of 150 firearms that traveled in interstate commerce. The jury also rendered a special verdict and decided that Rumble must forfeit his 150 firearms to the federal government.

ATF's investigation of Rumble stems from a 2008 wiretap on an individual believed to be involved in drug trafficking, ATF stated in the news release. A state search warrant was executed at the individual's residence and officers found drugs and 72 firearms. Law enforcement traced two of the firearms back to Rumble.

In 2009, agents executed a federal search warrant at Rumble's New York residence where agents seized Rumble's FFL records and 174 firearms. While auditing Rumble's FFL records, ATF learned that Rumble made false entries in his FFL records, concealed the identity of the actual purchasers of the firearms and knowingly facilitated straw-sales of firearms to people who were prohibited from possessing firearms.
Law enforcement personnel seized more than 300 firearms throughout the investigation.

Several agencies were involved in the investigation, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, ATF, U.S. Border Patrol and the Saint Lawrence County Sheriff's Department.
